Parish News

October 29, 2020

Dear St. Gabriel the Archangel Families,

I write to inform you that our beloved Monsignor Simon has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Monsignor Simon last offered Mass on October 28th at 6am.  Later that morning he began to feel ill and was tested for the COVID-19 Virus, which was positive.  Monsignor Simon will now self-quarantine during recovery and will be allowed to return to service after completing the quarantine period and receiving medical clearance as is health department COVID-19 policy.

Because of our close proximity and living with Msgr. Simon, while both Fr. Mark Madden and I feel fine and have not tested positive, we also must quarantine.  We will stream mass daily on YouTube and for this weekend we have two Vincentian priests who have graciously offered to celebrate our All Saints Day liturgies.

The rectory office is closed at this time, and the staff will be working from home. The rectory staff and parish nurse are available by email for rectory business. Their email addresses are listed in the bulletin and on the parish website.

We have been working directly with the Archdiocese of St. Louis to ensure we are adhering to proper protocols regarding protections again the COVID-19 virus.  If I can be of any assistance to you, or if you have further questions, I will make every effort to assist you.

I would like to remind you that if you begin feeling symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your doctor. If your doctor recommends that you receive a COVID-19 test, please contact your local health department and follow their directions.

As you know, our parish staff has worked tirelessly to ensure the safest possible environment for our St. Gabriel the Archangel family, including the regular cleaning of pews, enforcing the mask mandate at our entrances, ensuring that sanitizer is easily accessible and enforcing social-distancing guidelines.  The policies and procedures in place at both our Church and school have worked and helped us minimize any COVID-19 Virus exposures.

I will share any additional important updates regarding this situation as new information becomes available. You may also find updates and resources from the Archdiocese of St. Louis regarding COVID-19 at

Please keep Monsignor Simon and our entire community in your prayers as we continue through this challenging time.  It has been a difficult challenge for so many.
